Murder in Your Heart.  It began with a simple phrase “I am going to KILL him.” Who hasn’t said that before, right?! That common throwaway comment led to a late-evening discussion ( #drinkingmayhavebeeninvolved ) about those deeply buried murderous fantasies that some of us harbor in our dark little hearts. The friend who inspired this exhibition (who shall remain nameless) is aware. And proud. He possibly has ideas for the next round!

Sometimes it’s a flash of a thought when someone cuts us off in traffic, other times it’s a more drawn out plan that allows us to exorcise frustration, anger or feelings of powerlessness. Initially we thought it would be fun to write these fantasies out—ala Life of Walter Mitty, but sadly only one story ever got written.  http://luce-thoughts.tumblr.com/    However, the idea of creating an exhibition started to gel and survived the test of time.

We debated the welcome mat. Do we really want to welcome people into this thinking?! Ultimately we decided everyone was most likely already there and put it down. Is it a book, a movie, current event or political figure the fills your heart with the longing to murder? The inspiration doesn't matter. You are welcome here. Find yourself exploring current events, ancient myths, or TV shows--all with a slightly murderous bent. Ready to play out your darkest thoughts in miniature? We are....

"The Angel of Death is a realtor by the name of A. Z. Rael. We came upon his card catalogue in the study at an estate sale. On these 3x5 index cards he keeps track of you from illness until your passing. Cards are cross-referenced by family members to ensure everyone on the planet is accounted for. Like the impermanence of life, the limited details of each person are handwritten and the card material is biodegradable. Mr. Rael was also an avid art collector. The abstract paintings that hung on the wall of the study were still wet. A chill ran down our spines when we found a card that matched a wet painting. The artist’s signature matched the name on the card. Would you consider A. Z. Rael a murderer?"

A.Z. Rael's Study. Details here of many lives, and many deaths. Who decides? For an Angel of Death does the the life of the smoke in the pipe matter? Is a swig from a flask the same as a roll of the die?

"Die. Joe. Die." by Sharon Dorsey

"2002 was a dark time for children’s television, specifically for the Nickelodeon network. This was the year that my oldest child turned seven, my youngest three, and this was the year that one of the worst things ever happened to a show called Blue’s Clues. When Blue’s Clues began on September 8, 1996, it was revolutionary. The show presented material in a narrative format and replied upon repetition to reinforce its curriculum. The lessons were a breath of fresh air from the traditional children’s programming of that era. Rumor has it that Nickelodeon held over 1,000 auditions before casting Steve Burns as the host."

"No small wonder as his alter ego bearing the same name quickly became an icon among children’s programming. He was the gold standard of hosts. Blue’s Clues was a show that parents felt good about, and if we’re honest with ourselves, Steve was the glue that held the whole thing together. Until his untimely announcement of his intent to leave Blue’s Clues to start a recording career."

"What? In 2002, Nickelodeon sprayed poison all over the children of the world and introduced Joe. Joe was “eased in” over three episodes as “Steve’s brother”. As if those two could possibly share DNA."

They live as jingles, sayings, and tidy little kicks that advertisers drum up to (ideally) get us to buy their goods. But for the most part, just drive us to distraction.
